Multnomah County Training Program for Volunteers to Help Animals in Disasters

Multnomah County Office of Emergency Management and Multnomah County Animal Services are hosting a training program for volunteers interested in helping animals in a disaster. This pilot program will identify, train, and credential volunteers from the Portland-Metro area to support the rescue and care efforts for animals in the event of a disaster. The program will cover Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) accredited courses for individuals wishing to become credentialed volunteers.
May 16, 2009 ICSX – Introduction to the Incident Command System
This course is an overview of the Incident Command System and NIMS, drawing on materials from the ICS 100 and 200 courses and the IS 700 course. This is a three-hour introduction to the important concepts of these systems which takes some of the “shock” out of simply jumping on-line to take the home study courses. Individuals who complete this overview are encouraged to complete their Introduction by completing these courses on the FEMA website. A Multnomah County Certificate of Completion is issued for this Executive Course (3 hrs) and individual FEMA certificates issued for ICS100, ICS200, and IS700 courses.

June 13, 2009 IS-10 – Animals in Disaster, Part I
This course is intended to increase awareness and preparedness among animal owners, care providers, and others and includes sections on typical hazards, how these affect animals, and what can be done by responsible owners to reduce the impact of disasters.
