Animal Law Section Presents Law Improvement Resolution to Oregon State Board of Governors

Kathy Hall, Chair of the Animal Law Section of the Oregon State Bar, and Robert S. Simon, Secretary, presented the law improvement resolution of the Animal Law Section to the Oregon State Bar Board of Governors, Monday April 23, 2012. The resolution asked for “animals” to be added to the statute which currently authorizes a welfare check of “people and property” through entry onto land or a vehicle by a law enforcement officer without a warrant. While the issue may appear obviously covered by the law, numerous law enforcement agencies decline to use the statute to perform such checks when the reason is “merely” the safety of an animal.”
